NHD Reflections/ process paper
The topic me, and my partner are doing a documentary on is the Franklin Institute. We chose to write about the Franklin Institute because we are both familiar with the Franklin Institute, and it would be excellent to learn about the Franklin Institute’s history and why it was built. Before we began researching our topic I knew that Benjamin Franklin played a big role with contributing to the Franklin Institute and I also knew that the Franklin Institute was first located on 7th and Market at the Atwater Kent Museum. Also, my partner knew that Benjamin Franklin had a lot of influence on the museum, and he knew that it was about science. Prior to researching our topic we both discovered that the Franklin Institute opened schools, and we also got information on when the Franklin Institute was first opened and who discovered it which was two young Turkish men in their late or early twenties. We both conducted our research by attending the library to get sources, use the internet, and get books. The most important resource is going to be the book, “Philadelphia’s Philosopher Mechanics” by Bruce Sinclair. We both would have to agree on that because this book provides a lot of primary and secondary sources that would be helpful towards our documentary. We used several different varities of sources but we mainly stuck with the book because it is very helpful. There were several challenges that we faced but we stuck through it and overcame our challenges. One challenge that we faced when Matt attended the interview and I was not able to go because he got out early. We overcame this obstacle by staying focused and focusing on what we came to do, and that was to finish our documentary. Me and Matt chose to create a documentary because we both have never constructed a documentary before and this would be interesting because the kind of work we both would bring to the table, and plus we thought it would be easier to do a documentary then to write a 2,000 word paper or do an exhibit. We took a couple of steps to get to where we need to be in completing our documentary. A few steps we took was going to the library, staying after school for about two and a half hours and, and our editing our movie. There weren’t really any major conflicts besides the interview but like I sad before we overcame it and handled our business. Our project relates to the theme conflict and compromise because the conflict is that before the Franklin Institute was built the United States citizens were not able to go to a place where things were hands on and they could not educate their self on the science world until the Franklin Institute opened because they had that chance, and that is where the compromise come in. We also interviewed the curriator of the Franklin Institute. He was a big help towards our documentary and I would like to thank him. His name was John Alviti
